Welcome to The Sentinel
The Sentinel is a new publication focused on Europe’s rearmament.
In June 2025, NATO members pledged to raise defence spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2035, with an additional 1.5% on related security and infrastructure investments. For European allies, whose defence budgets mostly hovered around the 2% mark, that means unlocking hundreds of billions of euros a year over the next decade.
How that money is spent will be of historic consequence. If it is allocated efficiently, Europe will be able to deter Russian aggression independently of the US, and exert its influence on a newly competitive world stage. If the effort fails, Europe will succumb to threats and infighting, and slide into geopolitical irrelevance.
Our mission
The Sentinel exists to facilitate a coordinated European rearmament effort by serving policy, industrial and military professionals with actionable news and insights.
We will gather news and data-driven insights from across Europe, giving stakeholders a transnational perspective as they decide where to compete and where to collaborate, what to buy and what to sell.
We will also serve as a continent-wide hub of conversation for defence professionals and interested citizens. We’ll provide a selection of news and analysis beyond the paywall, publish opinions from guest writers, and convene events.
What to expect
Starting in late 2025, we’ll publish a weekly round-up and analysis of news related to Europe’s rearmament. Shortly thereafter, we’ll also begin publishing opinion pieces.
Our premium news hub and database is under development and is due to launch in 2026.
